BMW M Sports package for X5 announced, Australia being considered

BMW's X5 is set for a refresh in a few months, and will be launching in Europe in the second quarter of this year, with Australia following in June. Along with a host of mid-life upgrades, BMW has announced its M Sports package which consists of interior, exterior and chassis upgrades to personalise your X5.

For example, the trapezoidal exhaust from the X5 xDrive50i can be fitted to any of the six-cylinder variants. A new paint colour, Carbon Black metallic, is available, as well as new M 20-inch wheels and tyres.

Door sills, an M aerodynamic package and even new roof rails in satin chrome all comprise the M Sports kit, in addition to an M steering wheel, brushed aluminium interior trim components, and even an M-encrusted footrest.

Before you get too excited, though, the green light hasn't been given for it to arrive in Australia, despite its being available from the X5's launch overseas.

Speaking with CarAdvice today, BMW Australia spokesperson, Tim James, explained that Australia would be looking at it, although we're not sure if it will come down under.

"It's on the radar but unconfimed at this stage for our market", said Mr James.

Regardless, the xDrive35i is the one we'll be waiting for. With a 0-100km/h time of 6.8 seconds, fuel consumption of 10.1-litres/100km and one of the sweetest sixes around, it'll be a cracking drive.

June can't come soon enough.
