2018 Suzuki Swift Sport details

The new Suzuki Swift Sport is on show at the massive IAA in Frankfurt at the moment, giving us our first in-the-metal look at this next-generation Japanese warm hatch.

Painted on the stand in both signature canary yellow and in white, the new Swift Sport marks a sizeable step up over the well-liked but dated predecessor model.

As expected, the Swift Sport is powered by the same 1.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol as the Vitara, uprated with an extra 10Nm of torque. Claimed outputs are 103W and 230Nm, between 2500 and 3000rpm.

As such, the new Sport will be significantly more powerful than the current top-of-the-range model, which has a 82kW/160Nm 1.0-litre turbo-three. The old Swift Sport had a 100kW/160Nm atmo 1.6.

The MY18 FWD pocket rocket appears to come exclusively (at least for now, though remember this is Europe) with a six-speed manual gearbox. Performance times remain under wraps, though it weighs 1045kg wet according to info on the stand.

Design cues include sharp new alloys, a somewhat lairy body kit and a cool plastic rear bumper with integrated twin-pipes.

Highlights inside include a 7.0-inch touchscreen with navigation and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, badged bucket seats, red dials and cabin plastic trims, and metal pedals. There's also a boost gauge built into the trip computer.

Australia

Suzuki’s local arm says it is still to confirm local timing, but it is currently aiming for the first half of 2018.

The current Swift range-topper is the 82kW three-pot GLX Turbo auto at $22,990 before on-roads. The MY18 Swift Sport should come for under $25k, then.
