Qoros Model Young SUV revealed in China

5G connected car platform also announced

Chinese manufacturer Qoros has unveiled its Model Young SUV at the Chengdu motor show, previewing the brand's push to go more upmarket with its upcoming vehicles.

The Model Young is about the same size as a Mazda CX-5, and looks like something of a cross between a Subaru XV and a Kia Sportage - check the photos below and see for yourself.

Measuring around 4.5 metres long, the Qoros Model Young rides on the modular T1X platform, co-developed with Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), and shared with parent company Chery's Tiggo 7 SUV - of which it also bares a close resemblance to.

However, unlike its Chery brethren, the Model Young is pitched as a more upmarket offering, not only in terms of the trims and materials used, but also the future availability of 5G communications services and technology.

Qoros also announced at the reveal that it signed a "strategic agreement" with telecommunications provider, China Mobile, to collaborate on 5G connected car services, which will further the development of a next-generation intelligent network system. The company aims to be a leader in automotive connectivity.

Low-resolution images of the interior are the only ones doing rounds at the moment, though the Model Young does feature a large central-infotainment system, a large TFT driver's display in between the analogue dials, lashings of gold on everything from the interior trim inserts to the diamond-pattern stitching on the leather seats, along with a minimalistic approach to buttons and dials on the dashboard and centre console.

Under the bonnet is a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine with around 112kW (150hp), mated exclusively to a six-speed dual-clutch transmission. Qoros says, however, that the T1X platform supports aspirated engines, turbocharged engines, and plug-in hybrid systems.

The Model Young SUV is the first of the Chinese company's new family of youth-focused offerings, which will focus on making driving fun while also offering the latest connectivity features. It joins the Qoros 3 and Qoros 5, both of which are more tech-focused series.
