Jaguar Land Rover to be electrified from 2020

Every Jaguar Land Rover product from 2020 onwards will be electrified to some degree, the British company has announced.

The news, announced at the inaugural Jaguar Land Rover Tech Fest event in London, doesn't mean that every car or SUV made by the British company will be purely electric - rather, all new models added from 2020 onwards will have some form of hybridisation or electrification.

The announcement is backed by three phases of the company's electrification process on show at Tech Fest: the Past, represented by the E-Type Zero pure electric retro-rod; the Present in the form of the i-Pace concept (which will reach production soon, and go on sale in 2018); and the Future by way of the inventively named Future-Type autonomous electric concept car, the company's vision for 2040 and beyond.

Jaguar Land Rover chief executive officer Dr Ralf Speth said the move is about expanding the offering of EV and hybrid models, and therefore achieving lower fleet average emissions.

"Every new Jaguar Land Rover model line will be electrified from 2020, giving our customers even more choice," Speth said. "We will introduce a portfolio of electrified products across our model range, embracing fully electric, plug-in hybrid and mild hybrid vehicles. Our first fully electric performance SUV, the Jaguar I-Pace, goes on sale next year."

The Jaguar I-Pace will be the first fully electric vehicle offered in Australia from the British company, while there are already a couple of products in the hybrid camp - the Range Rover Sport Hybrid (from $187,900 plus on-road costs) and Range Rover Vogue HEV (from $230,900).
