Jaguar reveals Sayer, the steering wheel of the future

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has taken the wraps off a 'steering wheel' concept named Sayer, previewing the company's plans for autonomous and connected vehicles.

Revealed as part of the company's 'Tech Fest' taking place at Central Saint Martins art, design and technology college in London, Sayer is envisioned as a homebound piece of technology that can help carry out numerous tasks.

JLR says Sayer is the world's first voice-activated artificial intelligence (AI) 'steering wheel', which could be used to call upon the services of an autonomous vehicle, or book one in advance.

Sayer will be featured as part of Jaguar's future vision concept, dubbed 'Future-Type', which will explore mobility solutions for 2040 and beyond.

The steering wheel is named after Malcolm Sayer, one of the most prominent designers in Jaguar's history. Sayer worked for the company between 1951 and 1970.

Jaguar Land Rover's Tech Fest is a free-to-enter festival that is in its inaugural year in 2017. The theme for the first event is 'Technology with Heart', exploring the positive role technology is playing in reshaping the automotive industry and beyond.
