2012-14 Ford Kuga recalled for fire risk

Ford has issued a recall for 8878 examples of its Kuga SUV build from December 2012 through June 2014 over concerns faulty insulation materials in the B-pillar could pose a fire risk.

The Blue Oval reports that certain vehicles are at risk of the insulation material on the inner face of the lower B-pillar trim being subjected to a concentrated heat source in the event of an impact where the front seatbelt retractor pretensioner is deployed.

If the condition occurs, it could result in a fire, though no cases have been reported in Australia.

The 8878 affected Kuga vehicles were produced from 11 December 2012 though 19 June 2014. A VIN list for these models can be viewed here.

Owners of the recalled units will be contacted by Ford Australia, and advised to visit their local dealer for inspection and rectification of their vehicle.

Until then, the company urges that "the vehicle be driven with caution and at moderate speed".

This latest notice follows the controversial recall of the Ford Kuga earlier this year for a serious overheating risk, which saw a number of vehicles catch fire globally - including in Australia.
