Jeep Scrambler name to be used for new Wrangler ute – report

The new ute based on the next-generation Jeep Wrangler will reportedly wear the Scrambler name.

According to the team behind JL Wrangler Forums, and posted on their newly minted site Jeep Scrambler Forum, the Scrambler name will be revived for the ute version of the new Wrangler.

The forums' administrators have also posted screenshots reportedly taken from the Fiat Chrysler's internal ordering system.

These images confirm the ute will be available with a 3.0-litre turbo-diesel V6 engine. Although the company's 3.6-litre V6 and 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engines are heavily rumoured for the car, these options have yet to appear on the company's internal systems.

Roof options are said to include a black hardtop, a body colour hardtop, and a black soft top.

According to leaked CAD drawings, the new ute will feature a 5200mm long frame that's significantly larger than the 4370mm long frame used in the current Wrangler Unlimited.

In order to ensure decent payload and tow ratings, the ute will use a new 12-bolt axle and differential assembly from Dana.

The ute was last spied in May and rendered not long afterwards.

Australia

The Scrambler, or whatever it will be christened, has been confirmed for Australia, with the Guillaume Drelon, head of Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge in Australia, describing the car as a huge opportunity for the brand locally.

Production of the new model is scheduled start from September 2018, but exports won't commence until 2019.
