The updated 2018 Toyota Prius C has landed in Australia, bringing a revised look inside and out, along with extra equipment for marginal price increases across the range.
Starting from $24,040 before on-road costs, the Prius C kicks off $590 more expensive than before, though it maintains its title as the most affordable hybrid vehicle available in the Australian market.
Headlining changes in terms of design include a longer front lip and rear spoiler - extended the Prius C's overall length by 55mm to 4050mm - along with a larger grille, revised headlights and LED tail-lights, new 15-inch alloy wheels for the flagship i-Tech variant, and two new exterior colours - Hornet Yellow (solid) and Aquamarine (premium).
Inside, the Prius C range benefits from a new black steering wheel with piano black and silver highlights, a redesigned centre cluster, revised trims and finishes throughout the cabin, a larger 4.2-inch multi-information driver's display, and a 6.1-inch central infotainment system with satellite navigation and SUNA live traffic updates as standard, along with access to Toyota Link apps.
The Prius C retains the hybrid drive system from the outgoing model, which combines a 54kW 1.5-litre Atkinson cycle four-cylinder petrol engine and a 45kW electric motor, making for a combined power output of 74kW. Toyota doesn't quote a combined torque figure, though the petrol engine generates 111Nm of torque at 4000rpm.
Fuel use, meanwhile, remains rated at 3.9L/100km on the combined cycle.
Safety features include seven airbags, stability and traction control, ABS with electronic brake-force distribution, along with brake assist and an emergency brake signal. However, the update doesn't include the addition of active safety technologies like autonomous emergency braking (AEB) or lane departure warning - features you can opt for in the Yaris light car.
The updated Prius C range is on sale now.
