BMW roadster teased again ahead of August 17 reveal

The BMW roadster bound for this year's Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance has been teased again this week ahead of its official reveal on August 17.

Believed to be a preview for the successor to the discontinued Z4 sports car, this latest image - shared on the company's Facebook page - shows an aggressive-looking convertible complete with a low and wide nose, sharp character lines through the sides, and large alloy wheels in a star-spoke design.

Details of the new vehicle are still to be divulged, though we do know that the new roadster will ride on an architecture co-developed with Japanese automotive giant Toyota - also forming the basis of its own sportscar, believed to be a successor to the iconic Supra coupe.

This latest teaser comes after BMW released the above sketch of the new drop-top just over a fortnight ago, looking very much like the prototypes we've seen testing throughout Europe over the past year or so (below).

Despite rumours of the new model being named 'Z5', it's pretty much certain that the next-gen roadster will likely retain the Z4 name, as indicated by Ludwig Willisch, BMW's North American boss.

Speaking with website Autoguide in May, Willisch said: "There will be a sports car, yes, but it’s not going to be a Z5. That’s something that someone else has made up".

“It will be called Z… probably 4.”

Stay tuned for our coverage of the BMW roadster's reveal on August 17.
