Nostalgic book celebrates motor racing’s lost tracks

A nostalgic new book titled "Speedway – Auto racing’s ghost tracks", by SS Collins and Gavin D Ireland, takes an evocative and original look at the history of eight now abandoned race circuits in the US and Europe, and again viewed as they are today via a stunning set of photographs.

The captivating photos show long-forgotten race tracks, derelict pit lanes and the crumbling concrete of tracks that spawned NASCAR to the great European super speedways at Monza and Brooklands.

With diverse roots in times that included Nationalist Socialism and Prohibition-era bootlegging, the histories of these tracks offer an insight to different times and attitudes, as well as the evolution of motor racing. Many of the characters who raced on these circuits had a profound impact on their sport; these circuits, which fostered and occasionally destroyed such great drivers, are revisited here in the book which offers over 180 images of tracks yesterday and today.

The book is available now through book shops or online.
