Hyundai i30 N TCR racer debuts at the Nurburgring

The upcoming 2018 Hyundai i30 N has spawned a racing version for the TCR international touring car championship, with the new track car displayed a the Nurburgring this week.

Joining several other TCR versions of popular hatchbacks, such as the Honda Civic, Kia cee'd and Volkswagen Golf, the i30 N TCR is hoped to launch on the racing car market in time for the 2018 season.

Compared to the road car, the i30 N TCR racer gets a aggressive-looking wide body kit, race wheels, and a massive rear wing, along with a new livery that promotes Hyundai's high-performance N division.

The main colour is the N division's signature Sky Blue, contrasting with Active Red highlights.

While specific outputs for the TCR version are yet to be detailed, the i30 N race car will use a modified version of the road car's engine - which in 'Performance Package' guise develops 202kW of power and 353Nm of torque.

"The category has been very successful, with huge grids and high-profile entrants," said Andrea Adamo, Hyundai Motorsport Customer Racing department manager.

"It was very good to see that many of these current teams and drivers were interested to take a closer look at the i30 N TCR and learn more about what Hyundai Motorsport Customer Racing can offer in the next few months as they assess their options for racing in 2018."
