2018 Skoda Octavia RS on sale in Australia from $38,890, RS245 confirmed

The facelifted 2018 Skoda Octavia RS range has touched down in Australia, starting at $38,890 before on-road costs, or $41,990 drive-away.

Six variants, two engines and two body styles will be offered, for now, including the uprated 169kW/350Nm 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine from the Golf 7.5 GTI, along with the familiar 135kW/380Nm 2.0-litre turbo-diesel.

Drive is sent to the front wheels either by a six-speed manual (169TSI) or six-speed DSG (169TSI, 135TDI).

Compared to the model it replaces, the Octavia RS now gets the previously optional Black Pack as standard equipment, a larger 9.2-inch infotainment system, and the option of blind spot monitoring and adaptive chassis control.

Other standard features include 18-inch alloy wheels, partial leather trim with contrasting red stitching, RS Sport front seats, LED interior ambient lighting, red-painted brake calipers, front parking sensors, an Extended Electronic Differential Lock (XDL), satellite navigation, steering-mounted paddle shifters, progressive steering weight system and selectable driving modes.

Two option packages are available; the Tech Pack ($2300) and the Luxury Pack ($2800) - both of which Skoda say are popular with local buyers.

Opting for the Tech Pack adds an automatic parking assistant, adaptive chassis control, advanced keyless entry and 'smart start', a 10-speaker Canton audio system, and a manoeuvre braking assistant. The package is claimed to save around $1310 if you were to option its contents individually.

Finally, the Luxury Pack brings leather/Alcantara upholstery with red stitching, electrically-adjustable front seats with driver memory, lane assist, blind spot monitoring, heated front and rear seats, and auto-dimming door mirrors with 'environmental lights'. Savings of around $2200 are claimed.

Other options include 19-inch 'Xtreme' anthracite-coloured alloy wheels ($700), a sunroof ($1500 liftback/$1700 wagon), and an automatic tailgate for the wagon ($500).

The Octavia RS range is available with all the colours of the core range bar Cappuccino metallic, though adds the eye-catching Ralley Green (metallic) and Steel Grey hues to the pallette. Metallic and pearl-effect exterior colours command a $500 premium.

RS245 confirmed

From November, Skoda Australia has confirmed the higher-powered Octavia RS245 variant (above), powered by a 180kW/370Nm version of the 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine - shared with the Volkswagen Golf GTI Performance Edition 1.

Unlike the limited-edition RS230 that came before it, the RS245 will be a permanent member of the Octavia line-up, and will be offered with both a six-speed manual and a seven-speed wet clutch DSG - the RS230 was manual-only in Australia.

The RS245 continues to be front-wheel driven, though adds a limited-slip front differential.

Pricing for the top-shelf variant is yet to be confirmed, though it's likely it will carry a circa-$4000 premium over the 169TSI if the previous version is anything to go by.
