2017 Skoda Yeti, Rapid recalled for seatbelt fix

Skoda has issued a recall for 54 vehicles across the 2017 model-year Yeti SUV and Rapid hatchback lines over concerns faulty front seat belt tensioners could detach in a collision.

The Czech manufacturer reports that the gas generator of some front seatbelt tensioners have been incorrectly crimped onto the actuator pipe of the belt tensioner.

If the condition occurs, Skoda says parts of the pyrotechnic system for the front seatbelt tensioners may become dislodged on deployment in the event of an accident and enter the vehicle's interior, posing an injury risk to occupants.

A VIN list for the recalled Yeti and Rapid models can be viewed here.

Owners of the affected vehicles will be contacted by Skoda Australia, and will be advised how to arrange the inspection and repair of their vehicle.
