Tickford ’77 Bathurst Mustang: Tuner taking calls on circa-$120,000 special

Ford-focused tuning company Tickford has revealed details and images of its limited-edition Ford Mustang, the Tickford Bathurst '77 Special, to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Moffat Ford Dealer's famous win at Bathurst.

Limited to 77 units, Tickford will be using the Mustang GT as a base, adding 20-inch wheels, a high-performance supercharger, along with a near-identical livery to the iconic Ford XC Falcon. The cabin will include a bespoke steering wheel, XC Hardtop red and blue seat stitching, and a full OEM-spec leather interior.

Power and performance numbers have not been revealed, with the company still buttoning down the final details.

In 1977, Allan Moffat and Colin Bond raced the XC coupes to a first and second win at Mount Panorama, to take out the Australian Touring Car Championship.

Moffat, a V8 Supercars Hall of Fame inductee, endorsed the project and helped with the concept stage of the limited-edition car.

“The team at Tickford have done a very thorough job coming up with a modern interpretation of my 1977 XC Hardtop. While the Falcon has sadly been consigned to the history books, the Mustang was always one of my favourite cars to race, and I had considerable success in them. Ford has done a great job with the latest one," he said.

“The Tickford Bathurst '77 Special looks amazing, produces an unbelievable amount of power and the finish across all areas of the vehicle highlights why the return of Tickford is so important for the Australian automotive industry.

"These guys know what they are doing and it shows in this special edition."

Tickford CEO, Tim Edwards, is looking forward to giving racing enthusiasts a chance to purchase something special.

“This year is a significant anniversary in Australian and Ford motorsport history, and while it will be celebrated in many ways, we are privileged to be working with Allan Moffat to create a modern V8 hardtop that pays tribute to his famous winning machine,”

“We wanted to give fans that either witnessed the famous one-two live, or have come to appreciate the supreme effort after the fact, the chance to own a unique vehicle that has been developed in conjunction with the man that made it happen," said Edwards.

Final pricing for the special pack is still to be determined, but, speaking with CarAdvice today, Tickford marketing director Peter Trevaskis said a figure in the neighbourhood of $120,000 was the goal.

That number would include purchase of a brand-new Mustang and all of the Tickford enhancements described here - but because Tickford is not a licensed car trader, the initial vehicle purchase would be organised by the customer through the usual process. The car would then be shipped to Tickford for the '77 Bathurst upgrades to be carried out.

Trevaskis said Tickford would also entertain the possibility of performing the upgrades on an existing owner car - as part of the limited-edition 77 vehicle run and not in addition to that number - although this would require further discussion on vehicle condition and the package price.
