2018 Audi A8’s side revealed

The side view of the new Audi A8 has been revealed ahead of the luxury sedan's full unveiling in Barcelona on July 11, European time.

The German luxury car maker has released a silhouette view of the fourth-generation sedan, which we have tweaked slightly to bring out more of the car's details.

We can now clearly see one of the A8's alloy wheel designs, and its shoulder line, which fades out in the front door and reappears above the rear door handles. The new sedan also features large rear doors, slim head- and tail-lights, and some styling details taken from the Prologue concepts.

This is just the latest in a string of teasers from Audi about the new A8. Last month, the company gave us a glimpse of some of the car's interior and tail-lights, as well as its remote parking feature.

In the company's most recent teaser video, we get a preview of its new foot massaging feature for rear seat occupants.

Under the skin, the next-generation A8 will use the MLB Evo platform for front- and all-wheel drive vehicles with longitudinal engines.

Despite having a space frame body with a mix of high-strength steel, aluminium, magnesium and carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic, the new car's body will weigh 50kg more than the current A8's.

All A8 models will be fitted with a 48V mild hybrid system as standard. In time the system will rolled out to other Audi models, including the next-generation A6 and A7.

Primary motivation for the new A8 range is expected to come from V6, V8 and W12 petrol engines, and V6 and V8 diesels.
