2018 Aston Martin Vantage patent diagrams discovered

The design of the next-generation Aston Martin Vantage has been revealed via diagrams submitted for patent protection.

AutoGuide has discovered and published diagrams of a new front-engine, rear-wheel drive Aston Martin model submitted to Japan's patent office, and believed to be of the next-generation Vantage.

These images line up rather neatly with the last set of spy photos, taken in December 2016.

Said to be based on a shortened version of the DB11's aluminium-intensive platform, the new Vantage has an aggressive, yet elegant stance. At the rear, there's an aggressive in-your-face diffuser.

As with today's Vantage, the new car is said to be available with the choice of a V8 or V12 engine.

For the V12 model, the Vantage will adopt a version of the DB11's new twin-turbocharged 5.2-litre mill. In the DB11 this motor is tuned to deliver 447kW of power and 700Nm of torque.

In the V8 variant, motivation will come from AMG's twin-turbo 4.0-litre. Not only is this motor employed in a wide selection Mercedes-AMG models, but it's also used in the DB11. There the motor generates 375kW of power and 675Nm of torque.

The new Vantage is expected to make its debut later this year, and probably won't go on sale in Australia until 2018.
