2017 BMW 5 Series Touring pricing and specs, here in October

5er wagon lands from $99,900

Local pricing and specifications for the 2017 BMW 5 Series Touring have been announced this week, with the Bavarian wagon set to start from a smidgen under $100,000 when it arrives in October.

Just two variants will be offered in Australia, the diesel-powered 520d and the petrol-powered 530i.

Kicking off the range at $99,900 before on-road costs, the BMW 5 Series 520d commands a $6000 premium over its sedan equivalent, though is powered by the same 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine developing 140kW of power and 400Nm of torque.

The diesel wagon can sprint from 0-100km/h in 7.8 seconds, while returning a claimed fuel consumption of 4.9L/100km on the combined cycle.

Fitted with the Luxury Line design package as standard, equipment included with the 520d Touring includes 18-inch BMW light-alloy wheels, chrome exterior highlights, leather sports steering wheel, Dakota leather seat upholstery, ambient lighting, keyless access and start, DAB+ digital radio, head-up display, a 12-speaker HiFi sound system, full-LED headlights and fog-lights, and a split-opening automatic tailgate - the rear windscreen can open independently as a glass hatch.

Other highlights include driving assistant plus, electric front seat adjustment, navigation system professional, wireless smartphone charging, matte-silver roof rails, speed limit recognition, and a Sensatec faux leather-trimmed instrument panel.

The M Sport Package is optional on the entry-level diesel, commanding a $7200 premium. Extra features include larger 19-inch BMW M-light alloy wheels, the M Aerodynamics package, M Sport suspension, 'Shadow Line' dark-themed exterior finishes, 'M' badging, trapezoidal tailpipe finishers in chrome, an M leather steering wheel, front sports seats, and an Anthracite BMW Individual roof liner.

Meanwhile, the 530i Touring starts at $115,500 before on-road costs, or $6600 more than the equivalent 530i sedan. Specifications largely mirror its sedan counterpart, and it's fitted as standard with the M Sport Package.

Under the bonnet is the same 185kW/350Nm 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine from the 530i sedan, helping the Touring to sprint from 0-100km/h in a spritely 6.5 seconds, with combined fuel use rated at 6.5L/100km.

Additional equipment includes adaptive LED headlights with automatic high beam, heated front seats with electric lumbar support, a 16-speaker harman/kardon premium surround sound system, and a multi-function driver's display.

Other extras over the 520d with M Sport Package include electrically-adjustable dampers and M Sport brakes.

The Luxury Line package is also available on the 530i as a no-cost option, and offers 19-inch 'Luxury' light alloy wheels, comfort front seats with active seat ventilation, nappa leather upholstery, four-zone climate control, and the ambient air package.

Several cost-option packages are offered to further enhance and personalise the 5 Series Touring, including the Innovations Package, the Comfort Package, the Exclusive Package and the Precision Package.

Kicking off the optional packs is the Innovations Package ($1600), which adds the BMW Display Key, remote parking and gesture control.

Next is the Comfort Package available for the entry-level 520d. Costing $2700 with the standard Luxury Line specification, or $2100 when combined with the optional M Sport Package, this option adds dynamic damper control, high beam assist, front seat heating and electric lumbar support.

The Exclusive package ($6400) is specifically for the 520d Luxury Line, adding 19-inch light-alloy wheels in one of two styles, nappa leather upholstery, dynamic damper control, high beam assist, along with heated comfort front seats.

Finally, the Precision Package ($3400) brings a 16-speaker harman/kardon surround system, adaptive LED headlights, multi-function instrument display and high beam assist to the 520d.

As with most premium brands, there's also a huge range of individual cost options including exterior paints, interior trims, and numerous add-on features are available.

The BMW 5 Series Touring is available to order now, with first deliveries arriving in October.
