2018 BMW 6 Series GT official photos leaked

Official photos of the BMW 6 Series GT hatchback have been accidentally published ahead of schedule.

These images were originally published on Wheelsage, but have since been taken down.

Although the 6 Series GT is a new nameplate for the Bavarian luxury car maker, the car shares the same concept as the 5 Series GT it replaces: fit a taller body to the 5 Series platform, and add a dash of sportiness via a raked back tailgate and frameless side windows.

Compared to the 5 Series GT, the new 6 Series GT seems to be more aesthetically pleasing, with the horizontal bulge above the rear wheel arches helping to break up the car's visual height.

Under the skin, the 6 Series GT adopts the CLAR platform, which made its debut under the latest 7 Series. With a mix lightweight materials, including high-strength steel, aluminium and carbon-fibre, the new 6 Series GT should be lighter than the vehicle it replaces.

The car seen here is a 630d xDrive model, with a 195kW/620Nm 3.0-litre turbo-diesel straight-six. At launch, it's expected to line up alongside a 640i xDrive variant, with a 250kW/450Nm 3.0-litre turbocharged six-cylinder petrol engine.

Other drivetrains are likely to become available in time.
