2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS revealed at E3

The Porsche 911 GT2 RS has been revealed on stage at the annual Electronic Entertainment Expo, commonly known as E3.

The car took centre stage at the unveiling of the new Forza Motorsport 7 game, which is one of the headline titles for Microsoft's new Xbox One X console.

Porsche took the unusual step of having its new range-topping 911 GT2 RS unveiled at the games show, as the car will be hero car on the cover of Forza Motorsport 7.

No details were revealed about the car on stage at E3, although Dan Greenawalt, creative director at the Turn 10 studio, stated the GT2 RS will have the "most powerful road-going 911 engine ever made".

According to Evo, the new GT2 RS will feature a more powerful version of the 3.8-litre twin-turbo six-cylinder boxer engine used in the Turbo S.

With larger turbos, more boost, a titanium exhaust, a water spray cooled intercooler, and other changes, the engine will deliver more than 480kW of power and 750Nm of torque. Drive will be sent to the rear wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and an electronically controlled centre locking differential.

The car should be good for a 0-100km/h time of under three seconds, and 0-200km/h time under the nine second mark.

Other features will reportedly include race car-derived suspension, rear-wheel steering, Gorilla Glass windows, and 20-inch alloy wheels up front and 21-inch rims at the rear.

It's not known when the Porsche 911 GT2 RS will make its full debut or go on sale.
