Hyundai Australia posts record January sales

Hyundai Motor Company Australia has posted is best January sales result since the brand arrived in Australia in 1986.


Soaring 67.7 percent over its January 2009 effort, Hyundai sold 6208 units and recorded an 8.3 percent market share, equalling its best ever monthly result since the wholly owned Hyundai Motor Company Australia subsidiary was created in 2003.

Hyundai’s director of sales, Damien Meredith, said some of the local highlights included the Getz ranking first in the light car segment (1717 sales, 16.5 percent market share), the iLoad recording its best ever sales result and market share (592, 30.8 percent), and the Hyundai brand ranking first in Tasmania.

“The team at Hyundai and the Hyundai dealer network are thrilled with the start to 2010. This month we launch the all-new ix35 compact SUV into the Australian market and we have other exciting all-new products on the way soon,” Mr Meredith said.

One of those is the all-new YF/Sonata sedan which was South Korea’s best selling domestic model with 17,464 sales for the first month of the year.

Globally, Hyundai Motor Company’s sales increased 50.4 percent over January 2009, led by strong domestic sales, increased exports and a 56 percent rise in sales from overseas plants.
