Nissan X-Trail gets ProPilot autonomous tech in Japan – UPDATE

The Nissan X-Trail has been the latest recipient of the company's semi-autonomous ProPilot driver assistance suite, launching in its home market of Japan this week.

Joining the Nissan Serena - the first of the company's models on sale with the semi-autonomous technologies - the updated Japanese-market X-Trail can now accelerate, brake and steer without driver inputs during single-lane driving on a highway.

Features already available on the facelifted SUV include autonomous emergency braking (AEB) and an intelligent parking assistant.

In Japan, the X-Trail is offered with petrol and hybrid powertrains, with either front- or all-wheel drive. Like Australian X-Trails, the Japanese version is also available with both five- and seven-seat configurations in petrol forms.

This latest development comes after the facelifted Qashqai crossover was revealed earlier this year at the Geneva motor show in March, which will also be available with Nissan's ProPilot technologies.

Australia

Nissan's local arm released the following statement regarding the introduction of ProPilot systems in Australia:

"ProPilot technology is gradually being introduced to various Nissan models across the globe. Timing for its introduction to Australian-market has not been announced."

The facelifted X-Trail only launched here a month ago, and when we spoke to Nissan Australia's managing director and CEO, Richard Emery, the Qashqai was identified as the potential candidate to debut the semi-autonomous suite in Australia.
