2015-16 Mercedes-Benz SLK recalled for brake fix

Mercedes-Benz has issued a recall for its SLK sports cars sold between May 2015 and December 2016 over concerns faulty stability control software could cause the brakes to overheat.

The German marque reports the affected vehicles could have electronic stability program (ESP) software that doesn't correspond to the correct specifications.

If the condition occurs, the brakes could remain slightly engaged after an automatic brake intervention by a driver assistance system, such as adaptive cruise control, which would lead to continuous vehicle deceleration.

Affected models could experience brake overheating, and as a result a loss of braking ability. Mercedes-Benz says this could increase the risk of injury to occupants of the vehicle and other road users,

Sale dates for the recalled sports cars are from 1 May 2015 through 31 December 2016.

Owners of these SLK vehicles will be contacted via mail, and are encouraged to visit their local dealer to arrange for the upgrade of their car's ESP software.
