Citroen C4 Aircross, Peugeot 4008 recalled for tailgate fix

The Citroen C4 Aircross and Peugeot 4008 have been recalled this week for a suspected fault of the vehicles's tailgate gas springs.

Both French manufacturers report that an insufficient anti-corrosion coating was applied to the end cap on the outer tube of the tailgate gas springs, which could cause corrosion.

If the condition occurs, the end cap could break, and shoot into whoever is operating the tailgate, or cause the tailgate to fall suddenly - as there is no assistance from the struts - potentially causing an injury or accident.

Affected Citroen C4 Aircross models were sold from 1 June 2012 through 31 December 2013, while the recalled Peugeot 4008 units were sold from 2 April 2012 through 31 December 2015.

VINs for the Citroen recall can be viewed here, and affected Peugeot VINs are accessible here.

Owners of these vehicles will be contacted via mail, and are encouraged to arrange an appointment with their local dealer to have their C4 Aircross or 4008 inspected and repaired.

It appears the related Mitsubishi ASX (above) has already been recalled for this fault last December, which affected 55,079 vehicles locally.
