2018 BMW M2 update accidentally revealed on official website

The updated BMW M2 has been revealed ahead of schedule on the company's Belgian website.

The images you see here were captured by Bimmer Today before BMW Belgium removed the offending images and details from its website.

If these images are the real deal, the updated M2 won't differ greatly from the car that's currently in showrooms throughout the world. In fact, the photos published on the site are Photoshopped versions of the M2's original press photos.

Only the most dedicated BMW fans will be able to spot the update at first glance, as the M2's aggressive front and rear fascias, and broader fenders, have been left untouched.

The most obvious change takes place out the back, where the M2 is fitted with revised tail-light clusters. At the front, the M2 features new headlight internals with LED main and high beam units.

These two updates should filter through to the rest of the 2 Series range. A lightly facelifted 2 Series coupe was last spied late last year wearing a small amount of camouflage. An M2 prototype, possibly a higher performance variant, with a disguised front bumper was spotted in February undergoing cold weather testing.

The screenshots also reveal the M2's drivetrain will remain largely as is, with the car still powered by a 3.0-litre turbocharged straight-six with 272kW of power at 6500rpm, and 465Nm of torque between 1400 and 5560rpm.

Performance figures are unchanged, with top speed still rated at 250km/h, and the 0-100km/h time listed at 4.3s for the dual-clutch model and 4.5s for the six-speed manual variant.

Australia

We expect the updated M2 and 2 Series range to be revealed in the not-too-distant future, with Australian sales likely to begin late this year or early next.
