2017 Subaru Liberty S-Edition revealed

The Subaru S-Edition badge has found its way to another model in the brand's range - the 2017 Subaru Liberty.

With Subaru Australia adding just 100 examples of this slightly sportier sedan to its line-up, the car will likely be in reasonable demand - and at a cost of just $2000 over the cost of the 2.5i Premium model. That makes this version a $38,240 proposition.

The Liberty S-Edition - similar to the same-name WRX S-Edition pack - gets a number of design changes, but no mechanical modifications: the same 2.5-litre four-cylinder 'boxer' engine remains, with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) automatic and all-wheel drive.

On the outside there are 18-inch wheels, a mesh grille, STI lower splitter and tinted glass, not to mention S-Edition badges. Inside, the S-Edition has an STI shifter and S branded carpet mats.

The new model is in showrooms now, alongside new Liberty and Outback Fleet Edition pack, which has been added to the line-up but is aimed - you guessed it - at fleet buyers. These versions are essentially low-spec 2.5i models with the addition of satellite navigation.

Subaru anticipates about 100 sales per month of the Fleet Edition versions, which carry a premium of $520 (Liberty) and $535 (Outback) over their equivalent models (2.5i Liberty - $30,240 plus on-road costs; 2.5i Outback - $36,240 plus on-road costs).

Facelifted versions of the Liberty sedan and Outback wagon are both due in Australia in early 2018.
