Jeep Yuntu concept: Plug-in hybrid crossover teased
The Jeep Yuntu concept has been previewed ahead of its debut at the Shanghai motor show next week.
According to Jeep, the Yuntu concept will have biometric security, mobile social, and self-driving functionality.
Badging on the car's front door indicates the Yuntu will feature a plug-in hybrid drivetrain, possibly using parts from the Chrysler Pacifica plug-in hybrid people mover.
The Yuntu is believed to be a based on stretched version of the Cherokee platform, with the extra space allowing it to seat up to seven people.
Rumour has it that the production version of the Yuntu won't be engineered to tackle the Rubicon trail, and, as such, will be restricted to the Chinese market.
It's understood a restyled version of this SUV will be sold outside of China with either Chrysler or Dodge badges. If true, this would give either of those brands improved market reach.
At present, Chrysler's entire range consists of the Pacifica people mover, 300 sedan, and unsold stocks of the discontinued 200 sedan.
Dodge's portfolio is broader with the Charger sedan, Challenger coupe, Durango SUV, Journey crossover, and Grand Caravan people mover, as well as the discontinued Viper coupe and Dart small car.
