Citroen C5 has all new engines

Citroen has new engines for its C5 Sedan and Tourer that offer better performance and fuel economy as well as meat the new Euro five emissions standard.

“The new 2.0 litre and 3.0 litre HDi Turbo Diesel engines bring the latest in diesel technology to the Citroen C5,” says Miles Williams, General Manager for Citroen in Australia. “For Citroen owners they mean better performance, lower levels of noise and improved fuel economy and for the environment they mean lower emissions and the ability to maintain these tough standards without maintenance for longer periods.”

Coinciding with the two new engines is a sporty interior for the Comfort version of the Citroen C5, for both Sedan and Tourer.

The new 2.0 Litre HDi engine

The new 2.0 litre HDi engine shares its dimensions with the outgoing engine but the only common component to be the same is the crankshaft. The new engine has a stiffer block, a new cylinder head, new pistons and combustion chambers that work with the 200 bar high pressure injection system. More powerful turbo charger, new engine management system, lower noise, vibration and harshness levels and longer service intervals for the particulate filter.

Torque is up from 320 to 340 Nm at 200 rpm and power is up from 100 to 120 kW. Engine noise has been reduced by 1dB and the CO2 emissions have been reduced by an average of 6.3 per cent across the range. Almost three seconds has been shaved off the 0-100 time dropping from 12.8 to 10.0 seconds, and top speed is up from 201 to 210 kmh. Fuel consumption has dropped from 7.1 litres per 100 km to 6.8 litres per 100 km.

The new 3.0 Litre V6 HDi engine

The 3.0 litre engine replaces the 2.7 litre unit, power is up from 150 to 177 kW and torque up from 440 to 450 Nm. The Sedan can now achieve 0-100 in 7.9 seconds compared to 9.6 seconds, fuel consumption has also improved and is down from 8.4 litres per 100 km to 7.4 litres per 100 km.

“Embodying the many advances Citroën has made in recent years, the new C5 will more than satisfy the requirements of buyers of large cars in terms of both quality and dependability,” says Mr Williams. “A powerful addition to the Company’s impressive car line-up and a breath of fresh air in a market littered with anodyne rivals, the distinctive C5 ensures Citroën is strongly represented in the large family car sector.”
