2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk confirmed for New York debut

The Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk will make its debut at the New York motor show next week.

Last week, Mike Manley, head of the Jeep brand, told Autoblog and other outlets that the high-powered Grand Cherokee will be unveiled at the Big Apple's annual automotive shindig.

He wouldn't elaborate further on the vehicle, but did state: "That is going to be quite a special vehicle. Very difficult for one not to smile."

Manley made this revelation at an event held last week at Fiat Chrysler's Detroit headquarters to launch the concept vehicles for the 51st Annual Moab Easter Jeep Safari.

He also confirmed the next-generation Jeep Wrangler would be unveiled by the end of the year. Leaked images of the new Wrangler were published within the last two weeks.

The Jeep boss had previously said that a Hellcat-powered variant of the Grand Cherokee would debut by the end of 2017.

As used in the Dodge Charger and Challenger, the 6.2-litre supercharged Hellcat V8 engine develops 527kW of power and 880Nm of torque.

It's not clear if the Trackhawk's version of the Hellcat will be quite that powerful, but even if it isn't, it should be big step up from the Grand Cherokee SRT, which is motivated by a 344kW/624Nm 6.4-litre V8.
