2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class facelift spotted without camouflage

The facelifted Mercedes-Benz S-Class has been photographed completely undisguised.

The photos you see here were originally sent to and published by SaudiShift.

Up front, the revised S-Class has a cleaner front bumper design with a chrome bar running across the width of the lower air intake area. The grille has also been revised with new elliptical chrome slats, and the internals of the Mutlibeam LED headlamps have been revised.

The changes are more minor at the rear. There are small alterations to the rear bumper, and there's also a new chrome bar joining the two exhaust tip surrounds.

Inside, the updated S-Class sedan gains slightly larger screens for the infotainment and instrumentation systems. Like more recent Mercedes-Benz models, the screens on the updated S-Class are designed to look like on continuous unit. There's also a new three-spoke steering wheel instead of the current model's two-spoke tiller.

The model seen here wears S560 4Matic badges on the boot lid. The revived S560 model name might be used in the USA to replace the existing S550 badge. In the rest of the world, the S550 is sold as the S500. It's unknown if Mercedes-Benz will unify this variant under one global name.

Mercedes-Benz has already announced that the revised S-Class will ditch the current car's 335kW 4.7-litre twin-turbo V8 in favour of a new twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 with 355kW of power and 700Nm of torque.

We also know that the updated S-Class will be the first model in the Mercedes-Benz range to use the company's new inline six-cylinder engines, including the new 3.0-litre turbocharged straight-six petrol motor with 300kW of power and over 500Nm of torque.

It's possible that the company's new turbo-diesel straight-six, with over 230kW of power and 650Nm of torque, will make its debut in the facelifted S-Class sedan.

The rumour mill indicates that the S-Class sedan facelift will make its debut at either the Shanghai motor show or New York motor show, both of which take place in April.
