This latest Takata recall, which affects 177 GA and GB i-MiEV vehicles in Australia, joins earlier Lancer and Triton recalls announced for the same problem.
As with other affected vehicles, the i-MiEV recall centres on the potential for the passenger-side front airbag to release metallic fragments into the cabin when the airbag is deployed.
Affected vehicles were available for sale, whether to public or fleet, between March 30, 2010 and May 20, 2013.
Mitsubishi has confirmed it will contact owners of affected vehicles as parts become available. Owners will then be advised to contact their preferred dealer to have the faulty components replaced.
Concerned owners can contact Mitsubishi Australia by phone on 1300 131 211.
