2018 Bentley Continental GT coupe spied with less camouflage

The next-generation Bentley Continental GT coupe has been spied again, but this latest prototype has shed most of its false body panels.

Spied doing a bit of cold weather testing in Europe, we can now see clearly the overall design of the new Continental, as well as its front fenders, doors, boot, exhaust tips, and rear bumper and diffuser.

The pronounced hump over the rear wheels is still fake, though. Details around the car's grille, lower air intakes, headlights, and tail-lights have also been disguised.

Thanks to its underlying Porsche-developed front-engine rear- and all-wheel drive MSB platform, the new Continental has improved proportions, with a longer gap between the front axle and the firewall.

The current Continental, as well as the Flying Spur, use a front- and all-wheel drive platform shared with the Volkswagen Phaeton. Additionally, the switch to MSB, with its use of high-strength steel and aluminium, should reduce the "small" Bentley's weight from today's 2350kg.

It's expected that the new Continental and Flying Spur will be powered by a version of today's 6.0-litre W12 engine, as well as the new 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8, which made its debut in the latest Porsche Panamera. A plug-in hybrid variant is also rumoured down the track.

The new Continental coupe should debut later this year, and will likely go on sale in Australia during 2018.
