2018 Porsche range: More power and new kit for 911 S, price hikes across most Porsche lines

Porsche has announced availability of a new Porsche Exclusive upgrade for 911 Carrera S, 911 Carrera 4S and 911 Targa 4S models, delivering GTS-rivalling power.

The announcement is joined by news that Australia's Porsche Connect Plus package has scored an important update, gaining the LTE telephone module that compatibility requirements had previously kept from local buyers.

All of this forms part of a wider 2018 model year change, which adds new exterior and interior colours, and increased pricing across most of the Porsche range.

On the power front, all 911 S variants can now be optioned with even more power, gaining 22kW for a new 331kW (450hp) figure - the same output you'll get with the 911 GTS.

Ticking the box for 911 S models will get you larger turbochargers, along with the famous Sport Chrono pack that adds dynamic engine mounts, enhanced brake cooling and a centre-mounted twin tailpipe design unique to the kit.

But, as with most offerings at this end of the market, the upgrade doesn't come cheap: pricing starts from $24,580, or enough to get you into an entry-level Volkswagen Golf.

Porsche will also make the power upgrade available as a retrofit to existing Sport Chrono-equipped 911 S owners from June, although pricing for that specific option is still to be confirmed.

Moving into the 2018 model year has also brought a key upgrade to infotainment. Until now, the Porsche Connect Plus package had only offered Apple CarPlay connectivity for local owners, but buying an MY18 model will bring much more.

Android Auto is still off the table - Porsche has made clear it won't entertain that idea in the short term - but the addition of a newly certified LTE module for the Connect Plus package means the Porsche Communication Management system can now integrate with the Connect smartphone app to offer new features.

Those include My Calendar, My Destinations, Contacts, and Picture Navigation (navigation to GPS coordinates in picture). First Mile and Last Mile navigation is also featured, allowing guidance to begin before you enter the vehicle and continue after you exit - and then back to the vehicle later.

Other MY18 upgrades include new colours inside and out, across all Porsche lines. Among them is Crayon, a very light grey available on 911 and 718 models. Unique to the 911 is a new Saffron Yellow Metallic, a four-coat job with intermediate sanding (between coats), all intended to create visual depth in the colour.

Buyers of Porsche Exclusive-enhanced 911 Turbo S models can also opt for a Golden Yellow Metallic exterior shade, matched to a black and yellow combination interior.

The Cayenne picks up Purpurite Metallic and Palladium Metallic, while the Macan gets a new black and Luxor Beige combination interior colourway.

The Panamera gets Burgundy Red Metallic and Ristretto Brown Metallic options, again with the black and Luxor Beige interior. Cohiba Brown and Truffle Brown options join the club leather trim options.

Combined fuel use and emissions:
