Pininfarina-styled HKG H600 concept headed for production

The Hybrid Kinetic Group is planning to launch its H600 sedan in the US by the end of the decade, according to a new report.

In a new article published by industry journal Automotive News, board member Carter Yeung says the concept car unveiled at the Geneva motor show earlier this month is a strong indication of what the production version will look like.

"A lot of Chinese companies overpromise and underdeliver. We're going to be the opposite," he told the publication.

Designed by Italian design house Pininfarina, the H600 concept combines a micro-turbine range extender engine with electric motors. Power is rated at over 500kW, with 0-100km/h claimed to take less than three seconds on its way to a top speed of 250km/h.

With the range extender, projected driving range is rated at over 1000km - which is well above the 632km range claimed by the pure-electric Tesla Model S 100D.

Yeung added that the production H600 will launch in the US and China in 2019-2020 to challenge the Model S and other high-end large sedans - such as those offered by BMW and Mercedes-Benz.

The company also plans to reveal an additional two models at the Shanghai motor show next month.

Yeung said Hybrid Kinetic Group aims to produce "well over" 200,000 vehicles a year within five to 10 years, with manufacturing to occur in China following a trial run at Pininfarina's factory in Italy.

This is actually Hybrid Kinetic Group's second attempt at automotive production, after an aborted plan to operate out of a facility in Alabama, USA, first announced in 2009.
