2016 Mercedes-Benz E-Class recalled for airbag module fix

Mercedes-Benz has issued a recall for 640 of its 2016 E-Class models over concerns a faulty occupant sensor could cause the airbags to be disabled.

The German marque reports affected vehicles have an incorrectly installed occupant sensor in the front passenger seat, causing the pressure hose in the control unit to kink.

If the condition occurs, the control unit may not recognise if there is an occupant in the front passenger seat, which could result in the front passenger airbag being disabled.

This increases the risk of injury to a front passenger in the event of a collision.

Affected E-Class models were sold from 1 April 2016 through 30 September 2016.

Owners of the recalled vehicles will be contacted via mail, and will be advised of their required action.
