Lamborghini Aventador Performante spied

A prototype believed to be the Lamborghini Aventador Performante has been spied during cold weather testing this week, suggesting the Italian marque is planning an even hotter version of its flagship supercar.

Distinguishing this Aventador from the recently-launched Aventador S - apart from the contraption strapped to the bonnet - are two exhaust pipes sticking out the rear in addition to the central exhaust from the 'standard' car, though this appears to be fake.

The two exhausts at the rear are very similar to that of the Huracan Performante - which was spotted alongside this prototype - suggesting the Aventador will also get the Performante treatment.

Considering the Huracan Performante is over seven seconds faster than the Aventador SV around the Nurburgring circuit, it's likely Lamborghini is developing an even more track-focused Aventador to claim top spot at the Ring and within the brand's own line-up.

If the Huracan is anything to go by, the Aventador Performante - or whatever it will be called - should get a more powerful version of its screaming naturally-aspirated 6.5-litre V12, along with the company's new active aerodynamics systems.

However, it will be interesting to see where the new model will slot in, above the Aventador S and SV or replacing the SV as the new flagship.
