Infiniti Q60 Project Black S concept revealed

The Infiniti Q60 Project Black S concept has been revealed ahead of its debut at the 2017 Geneva motor show.

Said to developed by Infiniti and Renault's Formula One team, the Project Black S has been designed to gauge market sentiment with a potential launch further into the Q60 coupe's life cycle.

Infiniti says that it is investigating how it could fit the Q60 Project Black S with a hybrid drivetrain featuring a kinetic energy recovery system (KERS) patterned on the one employed by the Renault Formula One team.

That system features a battery pack and motors that can capture, store and redeploy energy captured from braking and exhaust heat. Infiniti acknowledges that this "technology does not yet exist in a current road car".

Autocar claims that such a system could develop about 373kW (500hp) of power. That's a significant step up from the 298kW/475Nm 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 used in the range-topping Q60 3.0t Red Sport.

Further details about the Project Black S' potential drivetrain should become available when the car is given its in-the-flesh debut next week.

Should Infiniti decide to build a faster, harder edged version of the Q60, whether or not it has the Project Black S' envisioned drivetrain, it could feature this car's wild body kit.

At the front, there's a heavily restyled front bumper with deeper air intakes, a carbon-fibre front splitter, and bonnet vents. Along the sides, there's prominent side skirts and subtle wheel arch extensions.

Around the back, the car is fitted with a massive rear wing, two large central exhaust tips, and a can't-miss-it rear diffuser.

Before you start scrimping and saving for a production version, let's not forget what happened to the Nissan GT-R-powered Q50 Eau Rouge.
