2018 Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo revealed, available to order now

New wagon priced from $232,800

The hotly-anticipated Porsche Panamera wagon has been revealed ahead of its global debut at the Geneva motor show this month, and it's coming to Australia before the end of the year.

The new wagon - dubbed Sport Turismo - joins the Panamera line with five different variants, including the hi-po 404kW Turbo, and will be the first Panamera to feature three rear seats.

In terms of its design, the production version of the Panamera Sport Turismo looks remarkably similar to the 2012 concept, though the front half of the car is virtually identical to its sedan-bodied sibling.

At the rear the Panamera Sport Turismo has an elongated window line and a raked roofline, giving the wagon a sporty and coupe-like aesthetic.

The roof extends into an active rear spoiler, which can adjust in three stages to generate additional downforce of up to 50kg on the rear axle.

At speeds of 170km/h, the spoiler automatically moves into a 'performance position' with an angle of plus one degree.

This function is also performed when the vehicle is set into Sport and Sport Plus driving modes, at speeds of 90km/h and above.

Measuring 5049mm long, 1428mm high and 1937mm wide, the Sport Turismo is 5mm taller than the sedan, though every other measurement is identical.

Inside, the Sport Turismo is the first Panamera model to offer three seats in the second row - though there is an option of having four seats like the sedan.

Porsche says it's more of a 2+1 layout, however, as the outward seats are full individual seats to keep inline with the Panamera's aim for maximum passenger comfort.

Behind the second row, the Panamera Sport Turismo features a 520L luggage capacity (425L for the E-Hybrid variant), which is a marginal 20L improvement on its sedan equivalent.

With the rear seats (40:20:40 split) folded flat, the space extends to 1390L (1295 E-Hybrid), around 50L more than the sedan.

At launch the Panamera Sport Turismo will be available in five trims; Panamera 4, Panamera 4S, Panamera 4S Diesel, Panamera Turbo and Panamera 4 E-Hybrid. Each variant is powered by the same engine as the equivalent Panamera sedan.

The Panamera 4 Sport Turismo features a 243kW/450Nm 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6, while the Panamera 4S Sport Turismo bumps the outputs from the same engine up to 324kW and 550Nm.

Under the bonnet of the Panamera 4S Diesel Sport Turismo is a 4.0-litre twin-turbo diesel V8 developing 310kW of power and 850Nm of torque.

Serving as the performance flagship will be the Panamera Turbo Sport Turismo, which utilises a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8, with outputs of 404kW and 770Nm.

Finally, the Panamera 4 E-Hybrid features a plug-in hybrid drivetrain, pairing the 243kW/450Nm twin-turbo V6 from the Panamera 4 with a 100kW/400Nm electric motor - making for combined outputs of 340kW and 700Nm.

All models are equipped with active all-wheel drive and an eight-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission. Performance data for the wagons is yet to be detailed, though don't expect much of a change, if any, from the sedan.

Australia

The new Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo range is available to order now, with prices starting at $232,800 for the Panamera 4 and topping out at $391,000 for the Panamera Turbo - making it the most expensive wagon on sale in Australia.
