2017 Toyota C-HR gets five-star ANCAP safety rating

The recently-launched 2017 Toyota C-HR has been awarded a maximum five-star safety rating by independent crash test authority ANCAP.

Fitted with autonomous emergency braking (AEB) and lane support systems (LSS) as standard, the C-HR performed well in all assessment areas, achieving an overall score of 33.18 out of 38 for adult occupant protection.

However, ANCAP noted the AEB system for locally-delivered models isn't as advanced as that in European models, which also features pedestrian protection.

"As a new entrant in the competitive Compact SUV segment, top safety credentials are a must if it is to win consumer sales, and it is encouraging to see key safety features provided as standard," said James Goodwin, ANCAP's CEO.

"It is disappointing though, that the AEB system on C-HR models supplied to our market is not as advanced as the system fitted to European models where it can detect pedestrians."

"We’re continually raising the bar, and vehicle brands which keep pace will be rewarded with our five-star stamp,” he added.

The C-HR launched in Australia this past week, and the five-star rating applies to all Australian and New Zealand variants.
