2017 Skoda Rapid facelift revealed

The facelifted Skoda Rapid has been revealed ahead of its full debut at the 2017 Geneva motor show next month.

Up front, the updated Rapid features new headlight internals with bi-xenon main units underscored by LED driving lights. The lower section of the front bumper has also been redesigned with new fog light units and a full width chrome bar on higher-spec models.

Out the back, the Sportback model is said to feature an extended rear window, and tinted tail-lights are now standard with LED lighting elements optional.

Under the bonnet, the 1.2-litre engine is replaced by Volkswagen's 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged motor in both 70kW and 81kW trims.

Three other engines are available on European-spec Rapid models: a 92kW 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine, and 66kW and 85kW variants of the company's 1.6-litre turbo-diesel.

All drivetrain options are fitted with automatic engine stop/start, and brake energy recovery.

On the inside, the updated Rapid is fitted with a new instrumentation pack. Available features now extend to a Wi-Fi hot spot, two USB ports for those at the back, Skoda's latest infotainment systems, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone mirroring technology, and a surround sound audio setup.

Other features include dusk-sensing headlights, automatic high beam activation, city emergency braking, and fatigue detection.
