Koenigsegg Regera coming to Australia in right-hand drive for a cool $4 million

If you're the type of person that wants and needs the very best of everything, you'll find it hard to pass up an exclusive opportunity to own one of the world's fastest cars, the 2017 Koenigsegg Regera.

The Regera became an instant internet hit when it was announced that it would do 0-100km/h in 2.8 seconds and a stupendous 0-400km/h in a crazy 20 seconds.

And, it does all of that with no gearbox. And, there's now a chance to place an order for a factory-built right-hand drive version of the Regera, expected to land in Australia in June 2018 with an AU$4 million asking price depending on currency fluctuations.

The Regera is being imported to Australia by Melbourne-based Prodigy Automotive. Director of Prodigy Automotive, Nicholas Batzialas thinks the company will import one per year and expects that the hypercar will attract a great deal of attention.

"We're excited to bring this hypercar to Australia. We think the climate is right at the moment and people that want the very best of everything will want to have one of the world's best hypercars," Batzialas said.

Batzialas comes from an automotive background, previously working for a number of automotive outlets before breaking off to team up with his business partner in this venture.

Batzialas partnered with John Kochanski, who is the CEO of Prodigy+, a company that provides support to leading ASX listed companies.

It takes Koenigsegg six months to hand build each Regera, with an equally delicate shipping process to ensure the car lands safely in Australia.

Prodigy Automotive will ensure the car meets ADR compliance and that it's ready to go when it lands in the owner's hands. Servicing will also be managed by one of "Melbourne's most prestigious dealerships."

The Regera is a fairly serious hypercar (you can read a technical breakdown on exactly how the hypercar manages to achieve its phenomenal pace without a gearbox here) and comes from a long lineage of hyper hypercars. Powering the Regera is:

  • One 5.0-litre twin-turbocharged aluminium V8 engine that produces 1100hp (820kW of power) and 1250Nm of torque (maximum torque produced at 4100rpm);
  • One crank mounted 160kW electric motor that produces a peak 300Nm of torque;
  • Two 180kW driveshaft mounted electric motors that produce a peak 260Nm of torque per wheel, and
  • One 9.27kWh liquid-cooled battery pack that offers 50km of electric-only driving range.
