2017 Toyota Kluger pricing and specs

Facelifted SUV arrives with more power, more tech, and a new look

Local pricing and specifications for the 2017 Toyota Kluger range have been announced this week, bringing styling enhancements, an updated powertrain and new active safety features.

Kicking off at $43,550 plus on-road costs, the new Kluger's entry point is $1360 higher than before, with the wider range seeing price increases of $1860-$2360 depending on model.

Headlining the 2017 model-year update is the updated version of Toyota's 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine - which is standard across the range - now featuring direct injection, pushing outputs up 17kW and 13Nm to 218kW and 350Nm.

Meanwhile, a new eight-speed automatic transmission helps to cut claimed fuel consumption by up to 10 per cent, while also offering smoother shifts than the outgoing six-speed.

The GX and GXL 2WD claim 9.1L/100km, while the Grande 2WD claims 9.3L/100km. Meanwhile, the all AWD variants are rated at 9.5L/100km.

Standard equipment on the entry-level GX includes seven airbags, rear-view camera, rear parking sensors, hill-start assist, air-conditioning, cruise control, six-speaker audio system, Toyota Link app compatibility, front fog-lights, and privacy glass.

Stepping up to the mid-tier GXL adds a larger 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with satellite navigation, DAB+ digital radio, power tailgate, three-zone climate control, keyless entry and start, roof rails, premium steering wheel and shift knob, leather-accented seats, front seat heating, and a 12-way power-adjustable driver's seat.

Finally, the flagship Grande gets autonomous emergency braking with forward-collision alert, 360-degree camera system, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure alert, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beam, ventilated front seats, power moonroof, memory function for the driver's seat, a 9.0-inch rear entertainment system with Blu-ray player, heated mirrors with memory and puddle lamps electrochromatic rear-view mirror along with retractable sunshades for second row passengers.

Those who want the extra traction of all-wheel drive will need to shell out an additional $4000 on GX and GXL models, while it costs $3981 on the Grande - the only variant affected by the luxury car tax (LCT).

All Klugers are covered by Toyota's capped-price servicing program, running for the first three years or 60,000km (six services), with each visit costing $180 a pop.
