SsangYong XAVL seven-seat concept teased

Korean brand hints at stylish future direction

Korean car maker SsangYong will use next month's Geneva motor show to reveal yet another new concept, this one dubbed XAVL.

Challenging Mitsubishi for some sort of "how many concepts can you reveal between new production models" award, SsangYong's latest show car will be a mid-sized SUV on the large end of the segment.

The XAVL, a name said to be an abbreviation of eXciting Authentic Vehicle Long, will build on the styling of the LIV-2 concept revealed at last year's Paris motor show.

Although appearing smaller than the LIV-2, the XAVL will feature a seven-seat layout, catering to growing demand for the three-row configuration.

As with the LIV-2, the XAVL hints at a new generation of styling consistency for the Indian-owned Korean brand, promising a modern and sleek yet rugged look.

The company claims the XAVL is also an evolution of the XAV concept revealed in early 2015, although the two share only a basic styling connection.

Although it is only a concept for now, SsangYong says the XAVL has been envisioned with petrol and diesel engine options, along with a suite of passenger and pedestrian safety features.

A production schedule for the XAVL has not been confirmed. And, for now, the brand is officially on hiatus in Australia. Read more about that here.

Watch for the XAVL to debut at next month's Geneva motor show.
