2018 Audi RS4 Avant spied with production body

The Audi RS4 has been spied again, but this latest prototype seems to be wearing a production-ready body.

The next-generation Audi RS4 was last spied in April 2016, and that vehicle had massive tacked-on wheel arch extensions. This latest prototype features more subtle flares highlighted by additional horizontal crease lines.

Rumour has it that the new RS4 will be powered by the Volkswagen Group's 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6, which debuted in the Porsche Panamera 4S, where it develops 324kW of power at 5650rpm, and 550Nm of torque between 1750 and 5500rpm.

Outputs may be upped slightly so that the new RS4 has an on-paper advantage over the outgoing RS4's 331kW/430Nm 4.2-litre naturally aspirated V8.

Regardless of the engine and its output, the new RS4 should better the 4.7s 0 to 100km/h time ascribed to both the current S4 and the about-to-be-superceded RS4. Drive, as you'd expect, will go to all four wheels.

The same drivetrain will also be used for the next-generation RS5. The new RS5 may also expand to include a Sportback variant.

Australia

The new RS4 Avant is expected to make its debut at the Frankfurt motor show in September, meaning sales in Australia probably won't start until some time in 2018.
