Aston Martin AM-RB 001 to get Cosworth V12

Hybrid hypercar arriving in 2019

Aston Martin has confirmed its Formula One-inspired AM-RB 001 hypercar will feature a naturally-aspirated V12 built by legendary British engine company, Cosworth.

The British marque announced some of the technical partners for its hypercar project this week, along with some of the key details of its road-going racer.

A high-revving 6.5-litre V12 will be coupled to a Formula One-derived hybrid system, mated to a bespoke seven-speed paddle-shift transmission.

The AM-RB 001's hybrid battery system will be supplied by Rimac - the creators of the Concept One electric hypercar - while Multimatic will be responsible for the vehicle's carbon-fibre 'MonoCell'.

Helping the hypercar to stop as quick as it goes will be lightweight, high-performance brakes with carbon discs supplied by Alcon and Surface Transforms.

German technology powerhouse Bosch has been called in to develop the engine control unit (ECU), transmission control unit (TCU) and electronic stability program (ESP), while British light manufacturer Wipac will produce the AM-RB 001's full-LED headlights and tail-lights.

Aston Martin has confirmed it will build 150 examples of the road-going AM-RB 001, including all remaining prototypes, while a further 25 track-only versions will also be produced.

First deliveries of the ultra-fast and ultra-exclusive Aston are scheduled to commence in 2019.
