2018 Jaguar XE, XF, F-Pace updates announced

Ingenium engines added, more safety, more tech, available to order now

Jaguar has announced 2018 model-year updates for its XE and XF sedans, along with the F-Pace SUV this week, bringing new engines and a raft of new features to each model range.

Headlining the changes is the introduction of the company's new 'Ingenium' petrol and diesel engines, with a new 147kW 2.0-litre petrol unit now available in both the XE and XF, while the higher-output 184kW petrol and 177kW/500Nm 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel are now available across all three model lines.

For the XE and XF, the 147kW petrol wears the 20t badge, while the more powerful 184kW version bears the 25t name.

Jaguar says the new Ingenium engine family offers more performance while also delivering improved efficiency and refinement, thanks to twin-scroll turbocharger technology, 200-bar direct injection, and an exhaust manifold that is integrated with the cylinder head casting.

For the 2018 model year, the XE and XF will offer 'Configurable Dynamics', allowing customers to customise their engine, transmission and steering settings to suit their tastes, and activated when 'Dynamic' mode, in conjunction with the already-available Adaptive Dynamics system – which allows drivers to customise suspension set-up.

Also new for the medium and large luxury sedans are the availability of winged headrests, featuring powered height adjustment and manual side wing supports.

The high-performance XE S gets a power bump for the new year as well, with the power output from its 3.0-litre supercharged V6 engine now sitting at 280kW – 30kW more than before.

However, the company hasn't confirmed whether the added grunt improves performance statistics.

In terms of safety, the XE benefits from the addition of pedestrian detection for the autonomous emergency braking (AEB), along with the availability of blind-spot assist, forward vehicle guidance – which uses the surround camera system to help drivers make tight low-speed manoeuvres like parking – and forward traffic detection – which utilises a forward-facing camera to alert the driver when a potential hazard is detected in low-visibility conditions.

For 2018 the XE and larger XF also introduce a new Gesture Boot automatic tailgate, which allows owners to open and close the boot by waving their foot under either side of the rear bumper.

Inside, the XF is available with 20-way adjustable front seats, including the adjustment for the new power winged headrests.

Like the smaller XE, the XF adds the availability of blind spot assist, forward traffic detection, and forward vehicle guidance for the new year.

Meanwhile, the F-Pace SUV adds the 15-spoke 22-inch alloy wheels from the First Edition models to the options list.

Inside, the F-Pace is now available with a new Oyster/Ebony colour combination, along with the addition of a sports steering wheel for Prestige and Portfolio variants as standard.

Covered twin cupholders now live in the centre console, while the top-spec Portfolio variants feature new enhanced front seats with winged headrests.

Like the XE and XF sedans, the F-Pace now offers the company's forward traffic detection and forward vehicle guidance safety systems.

Finally, all three model lines introduce a new dual-view function when specified with the 10-inch inControl Touch Pro infotainment system, allowing the driver to follow navigation instructions while the passenger views USB or TV outputs.
