2018 Ford Focus exterior and interior spied

The fourth-generation Ford Focus has been spied for the first time with production panels. Not only that, but the spy photographers also managed to take a shot of the new car's interior.

Beyond the hatch's overall shape, the pronounced shoulder line, and the Hofmeister-style kink to the rear door line, it's hard to make out too many of the car's other details, as there plastic disguise panels attached to the doors, tailgate, and bumpers.

Although this prototype employs temporary lights out the back, we can see that the next-generation hatch will feature tail-lights that stretch into the tailgate, a departure from all previous Focus generations.

Earlier mules, which used modified body panels from the today's hatchback, have shown that the new Focus will be longer and wider than the vehicle currently in showrooms throughout the world.

Mainstream versions of the new Focus will use a selection of three- and four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines, many aided by turbochargers. Hybrid and electric drivetrains will likely be offered down the track.

On the inside, the new Focus seems to adopt a more formal look, with this prototype featuring a plainer instrumentation area, although this might be a temporary setup for testing purposes.

Continuing the musician theme from the earlier mules, this prototype is named Ringo.

It's not entirely clear when the new Focus will be launched, but it could debut later this year. If so, the fourth-generation Focus probably won't arrive in Australia until some time in 2018.
