2018 Hyundai Sonata facelift spied

A heavily-disguised prototype believed to be the facelifted Hyundai Sonata has been spotted this week during cold weather testing.

While the majority of the medium sedan's sheetmetal is concealed under the heavy black-and-white disguise, the new face and tail-lights are partially visible, showing that the new Sonata will draw inspiration from the recently-revealed 2017 i30 hatch.

Up front is a new grille, revised headlights and upright LED daytime-running lights akin to its smaller stablemate, while out back new tail-lights with a distinct LED signature can be seen under the black sheets.

Being a facelift, don't expect major changes to the Sonata's body, though it would be logical to assume Hyundai will also refresh the front and rear bumpers, along with offering some new alloy wheel designs.

No images of the interior were snapped, though it's likely the updated Sonata will receive new trims and an updated infotainment system.

While it was previously speculated the facelifted sedan would make its debut in the latter half of 2017, Hyundai Australia's general manager for public relations, Bill Thomas, has confirmed the updated Sonata will arrive in the second quarter.

Stay tuned to CarAdvice for updates in the lead-up to the new Sonata's launch in the coming months.
