Honda Australia expands Takata recall – UPDATE
Honda has issued a recall for 25,284 of its previous-generation Accord, Accord Euro, Civic, City, Jazz, Insight and Legend models as part of the ongoing Takata airbag campaign.
As with all recalls brought on by the global Takata recall, affected vehicles could see the airbag inflator rupture upon deployment in the event of an accident.
Should the inflator rupture, metal fragments could pass through the airbag cushion material, potentially causing serious injury, or even death, to the vehicle's occupants.
Update - The original version of this article said 25,282 vehicles are affected by this recall. Additionally, Honda Australia has confirmed that 500 of these vehicles are being recalled for a second time.

The recalled models were sold from 1 January 2012 through 31 December 2012.
Number of vehicles affected by model line are as follows:
2012 Accord - 2656 units
2012 Accord Euro - 4804 units
2012 City - 1426 units
2000 Civic - 592 units
2012 Insight - 233 units
2012 Jazz - 15,535 units

The Takata airbag scandal has affected tens of millions of vehicles globally across a broad range of manufacturers, including Toyota, Subaru, Mercedes-Benz and Ferrari.

Honda has already been forced to recall around 600,000 inflators on 450,000 vehicles in Australia for their faulty airbags across several model lines, including the Accord, Accord Euro, City, Civic CR-V, Insight, Jazz, Legend and MDX - with some models dating back to 2001.
Stephen Collins, director of Honda Australia, told CarAdvice last year the company's local arm is working overtime to repair vehicles with faulty inflators, replacing an average of 7000 a week.
The company also has a public VIN checker that will tell you if your Honda needs to have its inflators replaced.
