2018 Ford Mustang Convertible revealed

Just days after unveiling the newly facelifted Mustang coupe to the public at Detroit's motor show, Ford has peeled back its lid.

The new-look 2018 Ford Mustang Convertible takes its cue from the hardtop, introducing a new front-end design, resculpted tail lamps and a host of drivetrain changes.

Among them, the overseas V6 engine option has been killed off, while the V8 and EcoBoost turbo four-cylinder engines get a power boost - although Ford has yet to confirm specific numbers.

Ford's new 10-speed auto, developed together with GM, has made its way into the automatic variants of the new-look Mustang range, while the six-speed manual carries over unchanged.

A new active exhaust system is featured, and MagneRide adaptive suspension has been introduced.

There's also an expansive new display available as an option to replace the traditional instrument cluster, and a number of pre-collision safety technologies have been added.

As with the new coupe, the updated Mustang Convertible will make its way to Australia sometime in 2018. Exact timing, for both body styles, is still to be confirmed.
