Dodge Challenger SRT Demon teased in new video

Dodge has released a pair of teaser videos for the upcoming Challenger SRT Demon, which is expected to become the new flagship model in the muscle car's range.

The short clips, the first of several teaser videos in a series called 'Cage', show a metal cat being transformed into a demon, while the second mentions a weight reduction, suggesting that the Demon will be an evolution of the Challenger Hellcat while also being lighter and more dynamically focussed.

It's unknown which engine will power the Demon, though reports suggest it will either utilise a version of the 527kW/880Nm 6.2-litre supercharged V8 from the Hellcat or even the 8.4-litre V10 from the SRT Viper.

To save weight, the Demon is expected to feature a stripped-out interior and make more use of carbon-fibre in its body construction, which could see it lose around 100kg over the Hellcat - which weighs a hefty 1892kg - in a similar vein to track-focused specials like the BMW M4 GTS and Porsche 911 GT3 RS.

Dodge has confirmed that the Challenger SRT Demon will be revealed at the New York motor show in April, reviving a nameplate that dates back to 1971.

It's likely to coincide with the release of Fast and Furious 8, which arrives in US theatres on April 12, the same day the Demon is expected to be revealed at the in New York.

The movie is also set in New York, another link between the film and the Demon's reveal, while the Demon is likely to be the vehicle of choice of protagonist Dominic Toretto, played by Vin Diesel.

Australia

Like the rest of the Challenger range, there are no plans to make the current generation in right-hand drive, ruling out the iconic muscle car for Australia.

However, it's possible the next generation of both the Challenger and Charger sedan could be produced in right-hook versions to appeal to global markets, so... fingers crossed.
